After a car crash, successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon is rescued by his "number one fan," Annie Wilkes, only to find himself held captive in her secluded home. Enraged that Paul killed off her favorite character, Annie forces him to write a new book to bring her back—leaving him writing for his actual life.
